The short version

  • No accounts, no ads, no analytics. You can read this whole site without telling us a thing.
  • The newsletter is the only place you give us details — your first name and email, kept by Kit, our email service. Unsubscribe any time.
  • Only essential crumbs by default. We remember your cookie choice. Kit's sign-up widget, which keeps a visitor ID, loads only if you click Accept all — and the newsletter form works either way.
  • We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who we are

This website is run by Way of the Pigeon Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16797488), registered office 82, Suite A, James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE, United Kingdom. We're registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller (registration number ZC178319). Way of the Pigeon is our studio; we also make the Collektory app (which has its own privacy policy) and run The 1nteger.

Questions or requests about your privacy: hello@wayofthepigeon.ninja. A real person reads it.

What we collect, and why

The newsletter

If you join, we get the first name and email address you type in. They go to Kit (Kit.com, formerly ConvertKit), which keeps our list and sends our emails for us as our processor. Kit emails you to confirm first, so nobody can sign you up by mistake. We use your details only to send the Way of the Pigeon newsletter — game dev updates, tutorials and first looks at what we're making, including Collektory — and every email has an unsubscribe link. Kit also tells us whether emails are opened and links clicked, which helps us send fewer, better emails.

Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it any time by unsubscribing or emailing us.

Kit's sign-up widget (only if you say yes)

If you choose Accept all, our newsletter box is swapped for Kit's own widget, loaded from Kit's servers. It keeps a random visitor ID in your browser and tells Kit each time the form is shown — with the page address and where you came from — so we can see how many visitors sign up. With Essentials only it never loads, and our form sends your details to Kit only when you press the button.

Legal basis: your consent, which you can change any time in Cookie settings.

Server and security data

Like every website, ours is delivered by computers that see your IP address, browser and the page you asked for. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes this to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We don't keep our own visitor logs or build profiles of anyone. Fonts and pictures come from our own server, so loading a page doesn't tell Google or anyone else you visited.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.

Emails you send us

If you write to us, we use what you send to reply, and keep it only as long as we need to help you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you.

Cookies & browser storage

Cookies and similar technologies (like your browser's local storage) save small pieces of information on your device. UK and EU law says we can only use the ones that aren't strictly necessary if you agree — and that saying no must be as easy as saying yes. So on your first visit we ask, with Accept all and Essentials only side by side. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as Essentials only. Change your mind any time in Cookie settings (at the bottom of every page too).

That's every crumb. No advertising cookies, no analytics, no social-media pixels and no embedded videos. Links to YouTube, Discord, X, Instagram and Facebook are plain links — those sites only see you if you click through, under their own policies.

Who else is involved

  • Kit — keeps the newsletter list and sends our emails.
  • Cloudflare — hosts and protects the website.

Both are based in the United States or process information there. Where your information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on recognised safeguards: the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension where the provider is certified, or standard contractual clauses (the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum). Ask us if you'd like more detail.

We don't sell or rent anyone's information, and we don't use it for advertising. We'd only share it if the law required us to, or as part of selling or reorganising our business — and then it would stay protected by this policy.

How long we keep things

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you, or until we stop sending the newsletter. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are cleared out regularly.
  • Security data: kept briefly by Cloudflare under its own policies. We don't keep visitor logs ourselves.
  • Your emails to us: as long as we need to help you, then deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (and the EU GDPR, if you're in the European Economic Area) you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, move it, ask us to limit how it's used, object to it, or withdraw consent at any time — withdrawing doesn't affect what happened before. It's free, and we'll answer within one month. Email hello@wayofthepigeon.ninja.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled something, please tell us first — and you can always complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113) or, in the EEA, to the data protection authority where you live or work.

If you're in the United States

We don't sell or share personal information (as California and other US state privacy laws use those words), we don't use it for targeted advertising, and we don't collect sensitive personal information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, get a copy, and have it corrected or deleted. Email us and we'll help — asking will never change how we treat you. We honour Global Privacy Control signals.

Children

This website isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their details. If you're under 13, please don't join the newsletter. If you think a child has given us their details, tell us and we'll delete them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how this site uses your information, we'll update this page and the date below — and if what the site stores in your browser changes, we'll ask for your cookie choice again.
